Patience with Priscilla

Oh Priscilla Shirer.
This morning I choose to listen to her speak.  The whole time i kept thinking I need to share this.
Yes i could just share it on FB or twitter but why not write a short post about it.  As if anything I write is short.   Maybe you don’t have Podcast and you can’t listen to it. I just feel the urge to blog it.
I enjoy listening to her and I know i am not alone.
Ok lets just get into it.
She started by talking about God’s patience. How he endures so much with us and it never shakes him. That the enemy will try to convince us with worry that maybe God has just had about enough of us. That 2013 was just too bad to use us in 2014. The enemy tries to shake us so that we don’t experience The depth and height and length of Gods patience for us. He knows you cant live abundantly when you are afraid. His grace is sufficient for you. It doesn’t matter where you have been or what you have done. The slate can be wiped clean.

I don’t know about you guys but I needed to hear this.
Gods power is not only seen in what he does but in what he chooses not to do. Its so easy for us to become impatience with our family, friends, toddlers and co workers . God doesn’t grow frustrated with us like we do with others. You don’t have the capacity to wear God out.
He doesn’t need a good nap to before he can handle whats going on in your life.
I just giggled at this. So many people take afternoon naps before they can continue with their day. Including myself when i can get the baby to nap with me.
Anyway, He is God and he is good. Everything you need God is.
If you are impatience God will train you in patience. He will put you in scenarios where you haft to wait. The reason you may sit next to that coworker in life, you know the one who if they say one more thing to you you may knock them out. He is growing your patience, you are learning.
God’s level of patience is perfect. Central to all God’s characteristics is patience.
He is great in power and slow to anger exodus 34:6
Thank goodness he is S L O W to anger, right ?
In 1st Timothy he talks about patience and God’s grace.
1:16
16  For that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.

Paul is clear about this, Its perfect.
Paul says just in case you are unsure and you think you may have worn God out. Would you please take a look at Paul. Paul says you have not dug a pit that is any deeper than I have for myself.  If Jesus can reach down in that pit and pull me out of it then i am sure he has our lives covered. You cant wear God out.
Paul says in verse 15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners–of whom I am the worst.
What a miracle is it that we are saved, that i am saved. That God made a way for us to have a relationship with him. He knows us in all our foolishness and he still chooses to have a relationship with us. Thank you for this salvation.
Isn’t it crazy that there are 7+billion people in this world and we meet the people we do and those people remain in our lives. None of that was a surprise to God. He has this stuff planed. Our grandparents, Our parents they all happened to find each other among the 7 billion on this planet and “this is going to get graphic” she says but with all the millions of sperm the exact sperm came together and created you, me….us.  That’s a miracle and God orchestrating our existence. Its a miracle that we were born and that we were born AGAIN.

There is a battle being waged in the heavenly for my soul from the begging of time. “Like a cosmic chess board “her dad says . The enemy and God and their minds are set on wining us over.
Our God never to be out done will always make another move. Adam and Eve, Noah ,Abraham, then 400 years and God made his other move Moses. Then Ruth she meets Boaz, They have Obed he births Jesse and Jesse gives birth to baby boy David and with that one move the enemy doesn’t even know it yet but the checkmate has been made. Then enters Jesus Christ and it is the move that to this day the enemy has never ever had a response for.
No matter what our story his grace is sufficient for us.
He has enough patience to change us,me.
He will strength me.

He saves me that’s Justification.
He changed me that’s sanctification.
I can count on him to strength me that’s fortification.

This is taken from the podcast of Gateway Church Priscilla Shirer. Most of this is word for word.  This just spoke to me and it may speak to you too.

Maybe i should wear a yellow ribbon?

This post I am going to be open about a side of me I am not proud of.
Today I had a moment where I knew I should watch my tongue.
I had a moment where I started to let emotion take over my actions.
This can lead to trouble and hurt.
Then I thought to myself  Maybe I should wear a yellow ribbon, Ha maybe even a muzzle to let people know I may act in a hurtful way.  Now I am just kidding but it does make you think.

If you have heard of the yellow dog project then you know what the title of this blog means.
If not I’ll quickly tell you.  A dog sporting a yellow ribbon or kerchief may not be safe to approach and should be left alone.  Initially people said “just train your dog not to act in such a way”. Its not always about the training but how their feelings can affect their actions. A dog could just be uncomfortable. It could be a nervous dog.”  A lot of things can cause a dog to react in an hurtful way.

Now if you think about a human the same way it kinda sounds similar doesn’t it.  Certain environments can cause us to behave differently.  Sometimes we feed off other people’s actions.
In one circumstances I may need to bite my tongue then in other circumstances I may get tongue tied and can’t say anything. Sometimes it is hard to predict how your going to feel and be able to prepare yourself for it.
I believe if I turn to God and pray to him about it he will give me a good base to work from.
Its is not an easy thing to do. In the Bible James states that “no one (in their own power) can “tame the tongue”.
James 3:8
“But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison”
No one can tame it not in their own strength; the applied power of God is essential for taming.

I have been working hard to think before I speak.  When that thought crosses my mind and I get that feeling in my gut I know I need to quiet myself and take a breath.  Yes sometimes this is easier than others. Sometimes it can feel be like I am trying to stopping a train. Its like when your on stage and your reading cue cards. Just because I see the cue card in my head doesnt mean I need to say it out loud. I want to walk in the spirit not walk in the flesh.

It can be feelings of worry, fear or rejection that spark these reactions.
Fear, that is a nasty one and today I heard a women speak on fear and how it brings its buddy distort with it. Fear almost always distorts reality for me. Come on we have all had this happen at least once.  We also know that fear is worse when we are tired.  Fear is also very quick. Sometimes it gets in your head faster than you saw it coming.  Whatever it may be stemming  from its not the Holy spirit.
I find that when I remind myself and say  “What will I gain by saying this?”  or ” Is this fear controlling me?” “Is it kind?”.  I usually take a step back and pray.
I recently was reminded how treating someone with kindness leaves room for the Holy spirit to come in.  Treating wrath with wrath just creates anger. I know this first hand.
I already knew this but had defiantly forgot it. I am a slow learner when it comes to this issue.
Slow and steady can be a great thing.
So today
I am so thankful for God’s word. I am So thankful for the people he has put in my life.
I may be stubborn but God is not giving up on me. I am thankful for God’s steadfast love.

Ephesians 4:29  Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

He knows me.

This morning i was going to do a post on taming the tongue. God had a different plan.

This morning i was able to help reunite my neighbor with their lost dog. This four legged family member also know as Sydney went missing two nights ago during a very cold night.  So we helped them keep an eye out for her and then we went to Facebook. Well a friend of a friend saw my post and said their sister had found a yellow lab. As it turned out this persons house was behind our houses through the woods.

As we drove to school this morning my children spotted Sydney and said “mom their she is”. Their she lay on the doorstep of the home where she was found. So i took the kids to school and then went back and pulled into the driveway. I was praying i wasn’t taking someone’s dog. So i hollered out “Sydney” and sure enough she perked right up and walked over to me. I lifted her into my jeep and drove to her owner’s home.  When we arrived her tail was wagging. She knew it was her home. I went in to get her owner and it only took a second for him to see her and say “yep” that’s our girl. It was a very happy reunion.  All he could see was her nose and eyes peeking through under the blanket my baby girl was using to cover up from the cold. He instantly knew by the look of her eyes and nose.                                                                                                     To me blonde labs all look very similar yet their owners know them instantly.         This made me think how God knows all of us individually.

Luke 12:7  “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

There are an estimate of 7,142,180,580 people in the world and that changes every second. There are 317,407,766 in the us alone.  We are all God’s children and he knows each of us by name. He knows so many details about us. If you know me you know i have a lot of freckles. Growing up i was asked all the time “Have you ever counted your freckles?” i always answered no. I imagine God could tell me how many freckles i have.  How many hairs are on my head. Now are these question i am just begging to know to answer to, Not at all. However it just amazes me that he cares so much about me as to know every little detail in my life. He cares about everything i do and he says My child if you would just follow my word and listen.  He hears your cries and sees your pain. Shouldn’t we care enough to get to know him?                                                                                                                                                                                            He understands.

The Bible says, “And it was necessary for Jesus to be like us, his brothers, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God, a Priest who would be both merciful to us and faithful to God … For since He himself has now been through suffering … He knows what it is like when we suffer … and He is wonderfully able to help us” (Hebrews 2:17-18 TLB).
So when you feel down or low and you think to yourself ” Nobody understands me” “No one cares for me”  These are lies we feed ourselves and there certainly is one who cares very deeply for you and does understand and if you look to him he will help you and teach you. He will show you love and grace.

Roman 8:28   28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Luke 12:7

“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

Psalms 139:1-6   1 O LORD, you have searched me and known me! 2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. 3 You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. 4 Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether. 5 You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.

Isn’t it amazing to think how there is ONE book out there that can help us solve any problem in our lives. It can teach us things no human can teach us. It is a book that sells over a million copies each year. It is in the hands of so many people yet does not get opened very often. It brings joy, happiness, relief, sadness and much more. It tells stories unlike any other book.

Its The Bible.                                                                                                                                      Here is the definition of the word Bible.

I am ending this with Matthew 6:7-15. We spoke about how he knows us. We are complicated and he still knows us intricately. He know what we need and will supply us.  Pray to him even when you don’t know what to say, pray to him. Sometimes you can just sit in silence with him. I know i have before. He just wants us to come near to him.

Matthew 6: 7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. 14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Matthew 6:8

“So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

Two feet

To a mom sometimes one of the most precious sound are those two tiny baby feet running on the floor.  We have hardwood flooring through most the main floor in our home. In the morning i may be having my morning time or cleaning the kitchen when i hear the pitter patter of a sweet little girl coming. The sound gets closer and closer and you await the sight of her to come around the corner. Her face lights up as she sees you and you open your arms as she runs to you. She embraces you and such a warmth is felt between you both.

Do you ever think God feels that way about us. As we sit down in the morning with his word and just be still.  I am quite sure that he delights in those moments.  C H Spurgeon once said that “If we are weak in communion with God we are weak everywhere.”.  I myself have found this to be true. I think and act differently if i have allowed time with him. Have you noticed how quickly your Iphone loses its charge during routine daily use? What about your spiritual life?  Quiet Times shouldn’t be optional if we are to have our “spiritual batteries regularly recharged”, we can be ready for the day’s activities!  Simply put, we must seek to spend quality time with God. A verse that has been put in front of me more than a couple times this week is Psalms 90:12.

Psalms 90:12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

“we must examine and recognize the value of every day we have on the Earth, and we must act as continual students of wisdom to make the most of these days, unselfishly and sowing with servants’ hearts, for we are but strangers here” -Geneva study bible

I feel i have seen just how short life can be by witnessing my husbands passing. It was so unexpected.  So lets see that our remaining days are not wasted but are spent in a way that pleases God.

I believe his face lights up as he sees us running towards him with our thoughts, emotions, fears & worries. Psalms 37:4 Take delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord;trust in him and he will do this. 7 Be still before the Lord and wait Patiently for him; Do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.  Please feel free to look up these verses and continue reading these are helpful verses. In psalms 37 the psalmist wrote about anger and how to stop ourselves from becoming angry.

  ·   trust in the LORD, or ask God for help

  ·   do good things, or give help to people around us

  ·   enjoy what the land gives, even if it is not much

Its easy to get angry in this world and to be jealous but these are emotions that lead us to sin. God can help us through them. He provides us with such ways.

Psalms 3:3 But you, Lord are a shield around me, my glory and the lifter of my head high.

Allow God to be the lifter of your head. Allow yourself to have quiet time with him.  Run to him with open arms. You will never regret it.

I end this with the song “thou oh Lord”
